Sustainable Redesign and Construction Supervision of the Sekolah Pilar Indonesia Lobby

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PkM) aims to assist Sekolah Pilar Indonesia in the sustainable redesign and construction supervision of its school lobby by integrating green design principles and optimized indoor air quality (IAQ) management to enhance thermal comfort, spatial functionality, and aesthetic performance. The applied technical approach includes a comprehensive assessment of existing conditions through the analysis of natural and mechanical ventilation systems, daylighting performance, and indoor thermal behavior. The design development phase emphasizes sustainable interior strategies, including the optimization of building openings, cross-ventilation, and the specification of low-emission, environmentally friendly materials to improve occupant health and environmental quality. The PkM team from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Kristen Indonesia delivers integrated technical assistance from planning through implementation, while strengthening the partner’s capacity in sustainable interior project management. The expected outcomes include enhanced physical quality and environmental performance of the lobby space particularly in terms of air circulation, thermal comfort, and occupant health as well as contributions to internationally reputable scientific publications.
